Because we are human and imperfect, we have tendencies toward thoughts and actions that are imperfect, or sinful. These sins interfere with our relationship with God who desires us to be in full communion with Him. Thus, we are given the Sacrament of Reconciliation by Jesus to return to God, repair our relationship with Him and receive His grace to be able to avoid sin in the future. In order to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, one must attend instruction on the sacrament and then receive it for the first time. For children, this typically occurs when the child is in the second grade and is done in conjunction with instruction for First Holy Eucharist; but it is not limited to that age. Classes are available for children who attend public school on Monday evenings from 7-8 PM. Children attending St. Mary Magdalen School will receive instruction during the school day. Children and adults that have not been baptized will need to begin the baptismal process before initiating the reconciliation instruction. This is done through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC) or the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, "Peace be with you." When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. (Jesus) said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained."
