Faith Formation for Grades K-5

PREPARATION FOR FIFRST COMMUNION MAY BEGIN AS EARLY AS FIRST GRADE:

FIRST COMMUNION CAN BE RECEIVED AS EARLY AS THE 2ND GRADE.

For Grades 1 - 5
Held Mondays from 7pm to 8pm beginning September 21, 2026 (as part of Monday night Religious Education), after a MANDATORY parent meeting on Monday, September 14 @ 7pm.

First communion requires two consecutive years of preparation. The first year gives students a general foundation in the faith, while the second year prepares them more immediately for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion.

Note: Children attending Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic School (first or second grade) who have not yet received their First Communion are welcome but not required to attend the Monday evening Faith Formation classes. Evening content is similar to content covered in religion class. If SMM students are in 3rd grade or higher, but have not yet received their First Communion, attending 2nd year Monday evening classes will prepare them to receive their sacraments.

Registration for the 2026-2027 school year was open from May 15-August 15, 2026 and is now closed. ‍ ‍

For Grades 3 - 5
Held Mondays from 7pm to 8pm beginning September 21, 2026 (as part of Monday Night Religious Education)

After receiving their first Holy Communion, students are encouraged to go deeper into the faith on Monday nights. Catechists will guide students in deepening their prayer life, help them to understand the Bible, and will share with them Church teachings on living a moral life, all while having fun.

Registration for the 2026-2027 school year was open from May 15-August 15. Space may be available mid-year: contact Dawn Bingaman to inquire about mid-year availability.

Held Mondays from 7pm to 8pm beginning September 21, 2026 (as part of Monday Night Religious Education)

This class is geared towards students in kindergarten. Students will hear about God’s great love for us and about his beautiful Creation. They will learn some simple prayers. This is a prelude to the 2 years of classes preparing them for First Communion. [Note: this does not count as their first year of the two-year preparation for First Communion.]
